Some food stories are worth telling. This is one of them.
In the heart of Northbridge, there’s a deli that has been feeding Perth since 1936. Re Store, founded by Lorenzo’s grandfather nearly a century ago, is one of this city’s most beloved Italian family businesses. And this year, they’re celebrating their 90th anniversary.
Ninety years. In an industry where most businesses don’t make it past five, that number says everything about the quality of what they do and the loyalty of the people who keep coming back.
We’re proud to say that Barbaro Smallgoods has been part of their story and that our product sits right at the heart of one of Perth’s most iconic foods: the Conti roll.
What Is a Conti Roll?
If you’ve grown up in Perth, chances are you know exactly what a Conti roll is. If you’ve just moved here, consider this your introduction to a local institution.
A Conti roll is a crusty Italian bread roll filled with a combination of smallgoods, typically a generous layering of salami, prosciutto, mortadella or a mix of all three and it is, quite simply, one of the best things you can eat in this city.
Re Store didn’t just popularise the Conti roll in Perth. They brought it here. Lorenzo’s family introduced it to the city, and decades later, across their two Northbridge locations, they’re still making around 800 of them every single day.
Eight hundred rolls. Every day. That’s not just a business — that’s a legacy.
Where Barbaro Comes In
For a roll like this to be great, the smallgoods inside it have to be great. That’s where we come in.
Barbaro Brothers has been producing award-winning Italian smallgoods in Perth since 1987 — salami, prosciutto, mortadella, cacciatore and more, all made the traditional way, with the same recipes and the same standards our family has held for nearly four decades.
Our smallgoods are featured in the Re Store Conti roll, and that’s something we don’t take lightly. When a business with 90 years of history and a reputation like Re Store’s chooses to put your product inside their most famous dish, it means something.
It means the quality speaks for itself.
Two Family Businesses, One Shared Value
What makes this partnership feel so natural is that Re Store and Barbaro Brothers aren’t just business partners — we’re cut from the same cloth.
Both businesses were started by Italian families who came to Perth and built something from scratch. Both have been passed down through generations. Both care deeply about doing things the right way, even when there’s a faster or cheaper option available.
In a food landscape that moves fast and often values convenience over craft, it’s genuinely special to find a partner who holds the same standards you do. We’ve been proud to supply Re Store for years, and watching them reach this milestone feels like a celebration for both of us.
Here’s to 90 More
To Lorenzo and the entire Re Store family, congratulations on 90 years. Ninety years of feeding Perth, of keeping Italian food culture alive in this city, and of doing it with the kind of pride and consistency that very few businesses ever achieve.
We’re honoured to be part of what you’ve built.
If you haven’t had a Re Store Conti roll yet, make it your mission this week. You’ll find them at their Northbridge locations, and you’ll find Barbaro Brothers inside every single one.
